Our Origin Story

The heart of Roos Rescue began with a tiny, spirited kitten we named Roo, who taught us that every life is worth the fight no matter what. Our journey into rescue started by feeding strays at seventeen different spots nightly until we met a woman in a local TNR program, which we quickly joined. That led us to a kitten struggling with a badly injured leg. After nights of patiently waiting and prayers, catching other cats and kittens, but not him. Our prayers were finally answered, we caught him and brought him home, and despite needing an emergency leg amputation, Roo emerged from surgery filled with love and a zest for life that never faded. Right after his surgery my husband held him and looked down at him and told him he didn’t have to worry. That he had a home now and we would be his family. We actually have the picture of this moment in our gallery. You can see Roo looking up at my husband as he tells him.For six beautiful years, from 2017 to 2023, Roo was our constant companion — a three-legged speedster who traveled cross-country in our truck, outran every other cat, and looked into our souls with a depth we will never forget. He fought hard during the start of his life and later during a mysterious illness that ended up being cancer. He never wanted to give up. You could tell how hard he was trying to hold on just to be with us one more day. He got his wings and crossed over the rainbow bridge on my 40th birthday. We lost our baby, our little boy but his legacy is the driving force behind everything we do today.Roo is the reason we are dedicated to TNR programs, community education, drastically lowing the staggering euthanasia rates and saving the 'feral' population; he showed us that when we give these animals a chance, we aren't just saving them — we are finding a piece of the puzzle to our lives we never knew was missing. We continue this work in his honor, ensuring his memory lives on through every life saved and every purrrfect story of a second chance.

Mission Statement

Roos Rescue was founded on a simple but urgent belief: no adoptable animal should lose its life simply because time ran out. As a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission is to dramatically reduce euthanasia rates by doing things differently — breaking down systemic barriers, challenging outdated rescue models, and building solutions that match the scale of the crisis.Rather than starting small, Roos Rescue is launching with a transformative vision: a large-scale, eco-conscious rescue and rehabilitation facility constructed from 20+ repurposed shipping containers, powered by solar energy and supported by concrete radiant heated flooring. This innovative design reflects our commitment not only to saving lives, but to doing so sustainably and responsibly. We partner with high-intake shelters to pull animals facing euthanasia — those too often labeled “out of time.” Instead of viewing these animals as statistics, we see potential. Our approach is to invest deeply in their rehabilitation through specialized training programs, that prepare them for new purpose-driven roles as therapy and service animals. These dogs will be trained to support individuals living with PTSD, depression, seizure disorders, trauma-related conditions, and visual impairments. This dual-impact model creates transformative outcomes:Animals receive a second chance and meaningful purpose.Individuals in need gain access to highly trained, life-enhancing companions.Shelters experience relief from overcrowding and euthanasia pressures.Communities benefit from increased mental health and disability support resources. With the scale of our facility and the strength of our partnerships, Roos Rescue is positioned to make the greatest possible impact from day one. We are not simply rescuing animals — we are redefining rescue, restoring hope, and proving that when we invest in potential, lives on both ends of the leash are changed forever. Our vision is a future where no animal runs out of time — and where second chances become powerful new beginnings.

Ending euthanasia by investing in potential and purpose.

Founding Members Call

We are a new Nonprofit animal rescue here in LaGrange, Kentucky, that will be operating in and around the Louisville Metro and surrounding areas. We are just starting out and are looking for people to help us get started making a difference.

Every year, thousands of adoptable animals lose their lives—not because they are beyond saving, but because shelters run out of time, space, and resources. We are changing that. Roo’s Rescue is launching with a bold, solution-driven model: we will pull animals from high-kill shelters and give them a second chance through professional training. This transforms them into service and emotional support companions for individuals in need—including those facing PTSD, seizures, and visual impairments. But our mission goes even further.

We are building an eco-conscious rescue facility designed from recycled shipping containers—proving that sustainability and animal welfare can go hand in hand. With the scale of our facility and the strength of our partnerships, Roo’s Rescue is positioned to make meaningful impact from day one. This space will allow us to expand our reach, save more lives, and serve our community at a much higher level. To make this vision possible, we are inviting 50 founding supporters to invest $5,000-$10,000 each. These funds will directly support:
• Securing and operating our initial rescue facility
• Life-saving veterinary care and rehabilitation
• Community Partnered Professional training programs for service and support animals
• Essential supplies, staffing, and infrastructure
• The early development of our long-term eco-friendly rescue campus

As a Founding Supporter, you are not just donating—you are helping build a new standard for animal rescue. At Roo’s Rescue, we are not simply rescuing animals—we are redefining rescue, restoring hope, and proving that when we invest in potential, lives on both ends of the leash are changed forever. Our vision is a future where no animal runs out of time—and where second chances become powerful new beginnings.

You will be recognized as a foundational partner in a mission that aims to significantly reduce euthanasia rates and create life-changing partnerships between people and animals. We will have a wall displaying plaques of our initial founding donor partners.

We are actively seeking grants and visionary supporters who believe in this mission and want to help transform the future of animal rescue. We believe no animal should lose its life simply because there was no room—and no time left. With your help, we can change that. Join us as one of the 50 who make it possible.

Thank you for your support.
